Markus Egermann is a geographer by training and holds a PhD from the TU-Dortmund (spatial planning and planning theory). He has 12 years of experience as project coordinator and senior researcher at the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and as a lecturer (graduate students) at the several Universities in Germany. His research is dealing with all aspects of sustainable urban and regional development, especially local initiatives from civil society, urban governance, participation, spatial aspects of transitions and post-growth approaches. His projects are always linked to societal impact, transdisciplinarity, co-designing aspects and experimenting. He has worked with public officials and policy makers across levels (from local to European). Markus is a regular reviewer for a range of international journals and the European Commission.
