The best way to reach Messina from many European Cities is through the Catania Fontanarossa airport (about 115 kilometers away from Messina). There are weekly scheduled flights from many European cities and several daily flight connections from other Italian cities including Rome, Milan, Naples, Bologna, etc. In addition, there are also several charter flights. Once arrived in Catania, there are different ways to reach Messina.

From Catania Airport to Messina by Bus:

•  Alternatively, there are local buses leaving from the Central Railway Station in Catania. To get to the Central Railway Station in Catania you must take a city bus called Alibus, which leaves every 20 minutes from the airport to the Central Station Square (Piazza della Stazione). From there, several buses or trains go to Messina daily, 6 euro each way. The Messina bus/train station is a 10 minutes walk from the centre of town. 

From Catania Airport to Messina by Train:

To get to the Central Railway Station in Catania you must take a city bus called Alibus, which leaves every 20 minutes from the airport to the Central Station Square (Piazza della Stazione). There you will find the central train station of Catania. The train station is directly connected with the Central train station of Messina.

From Catania Airport to Messina by Taxi Pick-up Service:

There are taxi pick-up services from the Catania Airport to Messina. This service must be reserved at least one week in advance of arrival. All flight changes or late flights must be immediately communicated directly to the service. Direct contact information to be provided. This service is not cancellable within 48 hours of your arrival. Taxi airport pick-up is available for both individuals and groups. Larger groups may be accommodated on request and with appropriate advanced notice.

From other near airport and cities:

Messina is connected also with Reggio Calabria airport and Lamezia airport by direct shuttle bus. If you decide to arrive to Messina from Calabria region (for istance from Reggio Calabria or Lamezia airports) you can cross the Stretto di Messina by Caronte ferries boats from Villa S.Giovanni and by Ustica Lines boats from Reggio Calabria. Also, there is a connection Messina - Reggio Calabria by State Railways ferryboats.
If you decide to arrive to Messina from Campania region you can take the Caronte & Tourist boats from Naples or Salerno. It is also possible to arrive in Messina from Palermo by train or SAIS bus.
