The University of Messina

The University of Messina was founded in 1548 and currently has about 40,000 students and 1,600 academic staff. The University of Messina includes twelve Departments, covering the widest range of disciplines, and it is located in different parts of the city. More precisely, the University has four main sites: the University Hospital "Policlinico Universitario "G. Martino", hosting Medicine Departments, is located in the southern area of Messina; the Departments of Law, Economics, Political Science and Education are located in the city centre, along with the Rectorate, the University's Administration Offices and secretariats; the Papardo campus, with the Departments of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences and Engineering is located in the northern area of Messina; the Annunziata Campus, hosting educational and research activities of Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy and Arts and Humanities, is located in the northern area of the city and it also includes the Sports Campus with a fully equipped gym, football pitches, tennis courts, basket volley and baseball courts, and two swimming pools. All University sites can be reached by public transport.

The Department of Economics

The Department of Economics is the second largest structure at the University of Messina, hosting around 2,500 students. The Department underwent a large transformation in the last few years through the appointment of new scholars, a critical revision of the offered modules and the improvement of facilities. Those transformations strengthened its capability to attract domestic and international students and to take research to the highest international standards. The Department consists of: 65 full time academic members, 25 administrative officers, 38 Ph.D. students, 150 Master students.

Getting to the Conference Venue

The Department of Economics is located in the city historic centre and is closed to the Central train station (10 minuts by walk). It is also served by public transportation and can be reached by bus or taxi.
